Oak Ridge advances to state semifinals, 66-45

MURFREESBORO - The Oak Ridge High School boys' basketball team scored a 66-45 win over Jefferson County in the Class AAA state quarterfinals Wednesday at Middle Tennessee State to advance to the state semifinals for the first time since 1999.

Kevin Steen led the Wildcats (31-7) with a game-high 15 points. Senior guard Jaylin Henderson added 11, and 6-foot-2 freshman reserve guard Tee Higgins added 12.

Oak Ridge will take on Arlington (29-4) at 12:30 p.m. Eastern on Friday in the state semifinals. Arlington ousted Murfreesboro Siegel (31-2) in overtime Wednesday, 86-80, and also eliminated nationally ranked White Station in the state sectionals last week. White Station (30-3) had four Division I bound senior starters.

Jefferson County (30-6), which was making its first state-tournament appearance, was led in scoring by Brice Cusick (14 points), Kyle Briggs (14 points) and John Bryant (12 points).

Oak Ridge last won a state championship in boys' basketball in 1963.
